Dalcha

Dalcha is definitely a hyderabadi dish. Everyone who'd love chana dal, swears by this dish. Vegetarians can omit mutton

Ingredients non vegetarian 6 servings


    • 500 gms mutton
    • 2 cups chana dal
    • 2 onion (chopped)
    • 2 Tomatoes (chopped)
    • 1 Carrot (cut in to round shapes)
    • 7 beans (cut each in to 2-3 pieces)
    • 2 Potatoes (cut each in to 8 pieces)
    • 1 plantains (cut in to 6 pieces)
    • 4 brinjals (cut each in to 4 pieces)
    • 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
    • 1 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
    • 1 tsp turmeric powder
    • 3 tsp jeera powder
    • 1 tbsp coriander powder
    • 1/4 cup tamarind juice
    • 1 cup coconut milk (thick milk)
    • curry leaves
    • coriander leaves
    • 3 tbsp oil
    • 2 whole cardamoms
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • salt to taste

    Directions

    1. Soak dal for 10 mins & boil and keep it aside
    2. Heat oil in a large kadai, add cardamom, cinnamon stick let it crackle  & add onions stir fry till soft.
    3. Add ginger garlic paste & red chili powder allow to fry for a min.
    4. then add tomatoes & green chili and stir, close the lid for 5 mins.
    5. Increase the heat and add meat, salt stir fry till the meat turns opaque.
    6. Lower the heat, add water bring to boil and simmer till the meat is half done.
    7. Add jeera powder, coriander powder, all the vegetable (except brinjal), curry leaves continue to simmer till everything cooked.
    8. Add brinjal cook till it becomes soft.
    9. Then add tamarind juice, coconut milk & cook for another 2 mins.
    10. Garnish with coriander leaves.
    11. Serve hot with plain rice,rotti.

    hey..this is a dalcha....that too hyderabadi dalcha.....no .....recipe is wrong....coconut milk is use only by malbariyans in very dishes....hyderabadi dnt put coconut milk in any dishes....

    Sorry, the vegetables u have included are not put in the hydearbadi dalcha ,kaddu is & yes tomatoes ,coconut milk is also not added .Mutton with bone gives it a good taste .

    Hi,,,, Tameez,,,,,,, Common don't balme Hyderabadi Dalcha..... Your recipe is just like sambar,,,,, but not like Dalcha.
