if made sweet by adding sugar can be served with tea as a snack or else it is usually served with chicken curry.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1 kg Rice
    • 250 gms Semolina
    • 2 Coconut milk
    • salt 1/4th tspn
    • sugar (optional)
    • 1/2 tspn baking soda powder

     

    Directions

    1. wash the rice and let it dry it for 5-6 hours.
    2. dry grind it to a coarse powder (coarse like semolina)
    3. take 100 gms of rice powder from it and cook it with more water the rice should be soft and well cooked and allow it to cool.
    4. grind the 2 coconuts and take the milk of it.
    5. mix together all the ingredients i.e. rice powder, semolina, cooked rice and coconut milk, baking powder. cover it and keep it to ferment for 10 hrs.
    6. after fermentation add salt to it .
    7. grease the idli moulds and pour the batter into it and steam for 5-9 minutes.
    8. you can also add sugar to the batter and make it sweet to have it with tea or for children as a side dish.
