Methi chicken

Fenugreek flavored chicken

This recipe contains both methi leaves and methi seeds and has a unique flavor

Ingredients non vegetarian 6 servings

    • 1 medium chicken (disjoint it)
    • 1 tsp Methi seeds
    • 2 tbsps ginger, garlic paste
    • 3 red dry chillies
    • Salt
    • 2 tsps red chilly paste
    • 2 big onions (sliced and fried)
    • 3 tbsps oil
    • 4 tbsps methi leaves
    • 3 tomatoes
    • 1/2 cup yoghurt
    • 1/2 lemon


    1. Peel tomatoes ,grind them with fried onions and yoghurt.
    2. Heat oil add methi seeds ,and  dry chillies,saute for 20 secs.
    3. Add tomato mixture,ginger,garlic paste and red chilly paste.
    4. Braise on medium heat for 10 mins.
    5. Put chicken pieces and salt ,reduce heat and cook covered till chicken semi soft.
    6. Add methi leaves and lemon,continue cooking till gravy thick and chicken done.
    7. Serve hot with naans or jeera rice.

    PS: I meant adding extra ginger and garlice paste plus the red chillies (flakes). I had brought fried onions from the US so this came in handy to puree this with the tomatoes and youghurt.

    Dear Fatma, this was a very delicious recipe and everyone loved it and wanted me to make it again. I took the liberty of adding ginger and garlic paste and extra red chillies to the recipe. Thanks and please create more such tasty food.
