ginger and chillis in tamarind sauce

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

    • 50 gms ginger (peeled and chopped fine)
    • 50 gms green chillis
    • 2 tbsp tamarind pulp (soak tamarind in hot water and extract pulp
    • 1/2 cup jaggery
    • salt to taste
    • 1 tsp mustard seed
    • 1 pinch l.g.powder(asafetida)
    • 1 tsp haldi (turmeric)
    • 2 tbsp oil


    1. Wash and dry chillis.chop them fine.
    2. Peel ginger and chop very fine.
    3. Heat oil in a pan.add l.g.powder,and mustard seeds.
    4. When mustard seeds crackle, add ginger and chillis.
    5. Fry nicely till oil floats on top and chillis are fried.
    6. Add tamarind pulp, grated jaggery, salt and haldi and mix well. let it cook till raw smell of tamarind goes and oil floats on top.
    7. Remove from fire, cool and store in an airtight jar.
    8. Tastes excellent with chappatis, pooris and also with plain rice.
    9. Can reduce the amount of chillis if the chillis are of a very spicy kind.
