Recipe by Mrs.Soujanya Hariprasad of Santa Clara, US
I learnt to make soft Idlis at home from my mother. Try it & u'll definately like it.
NOTE: Donot add too much water while grinding urad dal. The paste should be of medium consistency to make soft Idlis.
i tried idli batter with the recipe posted on my cook blog. recipe4cooking.blogspot.com/2009/12/idli.html
. my question is, my idlis when i removed it from the idli mould were slightly sticking to the mould. is it because i added little bit more urad dal? my idlis were nice ravedar. i want to perfect my idlis. pls help and comment on my recipe if possible.
Thank u rajeshwari.
presentation of idli batter or whatever recipe by Mrs.Soujanya is very appealing.
Hi ! One can add some yeast or a spoonful of curd to the idly batter before keeping it overnight. This will ensure that the idlys are soft.

Hi...Idli rava is a type of rava which is slightly thicker than regular rava. This rava is mainly used in making Idli's only. It can be easily found in grocery stores as Idli Rava itself.
What is Idli Rava?
What is idli rava? Is it rava?
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, broken cashews.Add this mixture to the batter.Sprinkle some coriander leaves at the end to the batter for garnishing.
This gives it an additional taste.
