Mava kofta

Gulab Jamun mix packet can be used to make side dish for rotis

Recipe by veenaramesh of Chennai, IN

Actually this recipe was told to me by my sister. When I tried, it came out very well. So I thought of sharing with Khanakhazana members. Once in a while gulab jamun mix can be used as spicy dish rather than a sweet dish.

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

    • 1 Gulab Jamun mix packet
    For stuffing
    • 1 Boiled and Mashed potato
    • 1/2 cup paneer
    • 1/2 cup boiled peas
    • Cashew nut chopped (6 to 7)
    • 10 Raisins
    • 1 tsp Chilly powder
    • salt to taste
    For gravy
    • 1 Onion
    • 2 Tomato
    • Ginger Garlic & green chilly paste
    • 3-4 Cashew nut (paste)
    • 2 tsp Garam Masala
    • 2 tsp Corinder powder
    • 1 tsp Chat Masala
    • 1 tsp Termeric power
    • 1 tsp Cumin powder
    • Salt to taste
    • oil/ ghee to fry

    Directions

    1. Take a bowl.  Add gulab jamun mix, salt, chilly powder and knead softly as we do for making gulab jamuns. Now make small balls (gulab jamun size) and keep separately.
    2. For stuffing inside the gulab jamun - Take a bowl add mashed potato, grated paneer, boiled peas, chopped cashew nut, raisins, salt, little sugar,  little chilly powder .  Mix all and stuff a small portion inside each gulab jamun balls.
    3. Now heat oil / ghee in a pan and fry these stuffed gulab jamun balls as we fry for making sweet gulab jamuns in medium flame.  Fry all the jamuns and keep aside.
    4. For Gravy - Fry onion and tomatoes and make paste.  Now in another pan heat oil/ ghee. Add ginger, garlic, green chilly paste.  After some time add cashew nut paste and fry till the paste leaves oil. Now add all the masalas and salt and fry.  Finally add cream.  Now add the koftas and garnish with green dhania.
    5. Serve it with roti, puri or naan.

Actually there is no particular measurement of cream to be added. This recipe already has very rich ingredients like mava, cashew nut paste so if one is very health consious just 1 or 2 tsp can be added on the top otherwise if you feel like you can add 3 to 4 tsp of cream.
