Red coconut chutney

ideal to go with upma, dosa

a very quick and easy recipe that will elevate your upmas and dosas to a different level

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1 tsp oil
    • 1 small onion
    • 1 tbsp chana dal
    • 1 clove garlic
    • 1 green chilli
    • 3 medium size tomatoes
    • 2 tbsp coconut, grated
    • salt, to taste
    • oil, 1 tsp, for tempering
    • 1 tsp mustard seeds
    • 4-5 curry leaves
    • 1-2 whole red chillies

    Directions

    1. Heat oil in a pan
    2. add chopped onions and chana dal(raw) and saute until onions become translucent(pink)
    3. add chopped garlic and green chillies
    4. add chopped tomatoes , add salt, and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat
    5. add grated coconut(fresh or dessicated) and cook for a further 2 minutes
    6. take it off the heat and blend in a mixer
    7. now, we have to temper it to finish it
    8. heat oil, add mustard seed, curry leaves and whole red chillies
    9. just as they crackle, add to the chutney
    10. now, the chutney is ready to eat, enjoy!!!
