Potato stew

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 6 medium sized potatoes
    • 4medium sized onion
    • a small piece of ginger(25grm)
    • 1 cup coconut paste
    • garam masala(dalchini, lavang, elaichi)
    • coconut oil (optional, can be made with any oil)
    • mustard seed1/2 tsp


    1. First of all cut the potatoes into medium sized cubes,finely slice the onion,chop the ginger finely
    2. Boil the above three ingredients in a pan
    3. grind the coconut with the garam masala
    4. when the potatoes are done add this coconut paste into it
    5. boil it for 5 minutes and then remove it from flame
    6. in another pan add 3 tsp coconut oil(optional),add mustard seed and a small onion finely chopped and curry leaves,when the mustard starts spluttering and the onion becomes red, remove it from flame and add it to the potato curry
    7. a delcious potato stew is ready which can be served with chapathi, paratha and palappam



    this is a good and simple traditional kerala recipe which tastes best with palappam. Some people may prefer Hot rotis to parathas for accompaniment..
