Prawns Thoran

Prawns in dry coconut Masala

Ingredients non vegetarian 6 servings


    • 1 kg Prawns
    • 1/2 kg Shallots
    • 1 piece Ginger
    • 4 Green chillies
    • Curry leaves - A few
    • 2 cup Grated coconut
    • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
    • 1 tsp Chilli powder
    • 1 tsp Coriander powder
    • 1 tsp Pepper powder
    • 1 tsp Garam masala powder
    • 2 tbsp Coconut oil
    • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
    • Salt - As required

    Directions

    1. Clean and wash prawns.
    2. Slice shallots after removing the skin.
    3. Chop ginger and green chilies.
    4. Roast turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and pepper powder together in a pan without oil.
    5. Mix the roasted masala with grated coconut, curry leaves and chopped green chillies. Mix it with hand for a better results.
    6. Heat oil in a pan and Splutter mustard seeds.
    7. Add sliced shallots and chopped ginger.
    8. When the onion becomes soft, add prawns along with salt and saute for a while.
    9. Add little water and close it with a lid and keep it on a medium flame until the prawns are cooked.
    10. After that, add the coconut mixture and garam masala and mix it well and cover it and again keep it on a very low flame for about 15 mins.
    11. Remove the dish from fire when it is dry. Mix it again.
    12. Serve hot with steam rice.
