Spicy puffed rice

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

    • 2 cups puffed rice (maramaraalu)
    • 2 tbsp peanuts
    • 1 tbsp puffed Bengal gram
    • 2 red chilies broken into bits
    • A few curry leaves
    • ½ tsp turmeric powder
    • 1 tsp mustard seeds
    • 1 tbsp oil
    • ½ tsp sugar
    • Salt to taste


    1. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When they crackle, add peanuts and fry.
    2. Once done, add puffed Bengal gram, chilies and turmeric powder. Add puffed rice and toss.
    3. Switch off the flame and add salt and sugar. Toss again. Serve as an evening snack with tea.
