Tangy Thave

tangy curry made from Mango & Lemon

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 1 cup Raw mango (cut into pieces)
    • 2 cup Water
    • 1 cup over-boiled Moong dal
    • 2 tbsp scraped Coconut
    • 2 Green chillies (slit lengthwise)
    • 2 tsp Vegetable Oil
    • 2 tsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
    • a pinch of Asafoetida (hing)
    • 2 tbsp chopped Cilantro (coriander leaves)
    • 4-5 Curry leaves
    • 1 tblsp Lemon juice
    • Salt to taste


    1. Heat Oil in a kadai. Add Cumin seeds & Hing.
    2. When the seeds turn light brown, add Green chillies & Curry leaves. Fry for few secs.
    3. Add Mango pieces, fry for 30 secs, add 1 cup Water & boil till the pieces are soft.
    4. Add boiled Moong dal & mix well. Boil for a minute. The gravy thickens a bit.
    5. Add remaining water, Coconut & Salt. Boil till it is of Semi-liquid consistency. Turn off the heat, add Cilantro & Lemon juice. Mix well, cover for 10 mins. Serve hot with steamed Rice or Chapati.
    Note: Adjust the consistency to your requirement. If the Mango is too sour, reduce Lemon juice.
