this is a simple dal that is so regular to the andhra kitchens...also made with other gourds like bottle gourd or snake gourd.tastes best with plain rice and ghee...
Ingredients
vegetarian 4 servings
1 cup ridge gourd cut into small pieces
a handful of moong dal
1/2 tsp turmeric
3-4 red chillies
2 green chillies chopped
1/2 tsp mustard
few curry leaves
few sprigs of coriander
a pinch of hing
salt to taste
few drops of lemon juice
1/2 tsp roasted jeera powder
Directions
Pressure cook dal with turmeric.
heat oil and splutter mustard seeds and add the red and green chillies.when they turn colour,add hing to it and add the vegetable and salt.cook on medium flame tossing now and then.when the vegetable is getting soft add dal to it.and cook for some more time.add water if it's getting too thick.
squeeze in some lemon juice and just before turning off add the jeera powder for the flavour.
