Amla rice

a rice made with grated amla is something to try for a variety.....

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

    • 4-5 amlas (gooseberry), grated
    • 3 cups of boiled rice
    • 2 green chillies
    • 1/2 onion grated


    • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
    • 1 tsp chana dal
    • 3-4 whole red chillies
    • few curry leaves
    • a pinch of hing
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric(optional)
    • salt to taste
    • coriander for garnish



    1. Grind green chillies and grated onions coarsely and set aside
    2. Heat oil,splutter mustard seeds and add channa dal and red chillies and curry leaves.
    3. When they turn light brown, fry the chilli and onion into the oil till the raw smell is off.
    4. Add the grated amla and saute till it slightly turns tender.
    5. Add salt and turmeric and again fry for 2-3 minutes and add the hing to it.
    6. Once you find the oil well separated turn off gas and mix in the cooked rice till it combines well.
    7. Add more salt if required and serve hot.
