this is a popular poriyal(so called for dry subzi)in the south served as an accompaniment in their meals.....however can be enjoyed with plain rotis or Dal and chawal too
Ingredients
vegetarian 4 servings
3 cups finely chopped cabbage
25 g channa dal
1 green chilli
2 whole red chillies
1/2ts jeera
1/2 tsp mustard
1/4 tsp turmeric
5 tsp grated coconut
few curry leaves
salt to taste
Directions
pressure cook channa dal till 4 or 5 whistles.make sure it still remains whole.
in a separate kadai cook the cabbage with just adequate water combining the channa dal and the jeera, green chilli,salt and turmeric.
cook till the cabbage is soft and the whole mixture is dry.
heat 2tsps of oil and season with mustard,red chillies and curry leaves.add the grated coconut and stir it into the cooked cabbage mixture.
