methi gatte ki sabzi

gatte ki sabzui with variation. try it

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 100 g besan
    • 1/2 cup chopped methi leaves
    • 3 tomatoes finely chopped
    • 2 onions finely chopped
    • 4 green chillies chopped
    • 1 tbsp ginger and garlic paste
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric
    • 1/2 tsp mustard paste
    • 1/4 tbsp red chilli powder
    • 1/2 coriander powder
    • a pinch of hing
    • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
    • 1/2 tsp carom seeds(ajwain)
    • 1/4 tsp garam masala
    • salt to taste
    • water accordingly
    • oil


    1. mix besan,1/2 of green chilli, 1/8 tbsp red chilli and1 tbsp oil.
    2. add water in this mixture to make a dough.
    3. make strips of 1 cm diameter and 5-6 inches in length.
    4. put into a boiling  and boil for 10 minutes.
    5. take out from water and cut them into small pieces .these pieces r called gatte.
    6. u can shallow fry these gatte and use as a tea time snack.
    7. heat oil in a pan and add hing cumin seed ,green chilli, ginger garlic paste and  mustard paste.
    8. add onions and saute for some time.
    9. add tomatoes cook again for 2 minutes.
    10. add turmeric, coriander powder, salt and garam masala and 1 1/2 cups of water. boil for 5 minutes.
    11. now gravy is ready.
    12. put gatte in a gravy and boil for 3 minuted or until gravy gets thick.
    13. serve with steamed rice or plain paratha.
