Filo delight

You & your family will love this dessert give it a try & see what I mean.

Ingredients vegetarian 8 servings

    • 4 ready made phyllo pastry sheets (cut into 4 strips = 16 strips).
    • 8 tbsp butter
    Cream filling:
    • 1/4 cup rice/corn flour
    • 2 cup milk
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • 1/2 c unsalted whisked cream cheese
    • 2 tbsp sugar
    • 1 tbsp orange blossom water
    • 8 tbsp strawberry jam
    • 2 cup sugar
    • 1 cup water
    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
    • 2 tbsp orange blossom water
    • 1/4 powder sugar/Pistachio 


    For syrup:
    1. Combine sugar + water & lemon juice & make a thick syrup.
    2. Just before removing from heat add the Orange blossom water & allow it to cool.
    For filling:
    1. In another sauce pan heat milk & add rice flour & keep whisking with a hand whisker so no lumps form
    2. Add heavy cream, cheese & sugar & lower the heat to simmer for 10 min
    3. Just before removing add Orange blossom water, stir & remove from heat.
    4. Set the Syrup & filling aside.
    5. Defrost ur pastry & remove from the box making sure to keep it covered with a wet cloth so it does not dry out.
    6. brush each 2 strips with butter on the top facing.
    7. put one strip on another in a cross form, put a tbsp of filling in the centre of the cross and top it with jam.
    8. Fold One side of one strip on another strips side & the other on the first strip & make a square shape pastry.
    9. Brush with butter on the out side. Do this until all ur pastry & filling is finished & keep putting them on a baking tray brushed with butter.
    10. Bake in the oven for approx 40 min or until golden and crisp.
    11. Drizzle with syrup (don't  soak them for to long in syrup or else they become soggy )then dust with powdered sugar & serve hot or cold.
    Extra syrup can be put on the side for everyone to help them selves.
    these pastries r very fragile so u have to be careful & keep them covered when not using them.
