Fried fish pieces in a coconut milk gravy

Its something very special, traditional, learned from from my grand ma

Ingredients non vegetarian 4 servings


    • 8 to 10 pieces of king fish or sherry fish
    • 3 tsp of red chilli powder
    • 1 tsp of turmeric powder
    • 2 medium size onion
    • 1 large tomato
    • 1/2 cup of fresh coconut milk
    • 1 small lemon juice
    • 2 green chillies
    • 1/2 cup of coriander and mint leaves
    • 2 tsp of coriander powder
    • salt as required
    • oil for frying
    • 4 cloves
    • 3 cardamom
    • 1" cinnamon stick

    Directions

    1. Clean the fish drain the water completely and in a small bowl mix half of the red chilli pwdr., turmeric pwdr. and salt as required and apply this on the fish pieces and keep inside fridge.
    2. In a wide kadai heat 50 gms of oil put the clove, cardamom, cinnamon and add sliced onion and fry
    3. Fry the onion till golden brown add 1 tbsp of ginger and garlic paste sprinkle little water and fry
    4. Add chopped tomatoes, green chillies, leaves stir well
    5. Add the chilli pwdr., turmeric pwdr., dhania pwdr., salt little water cover the pan and cook
    6. Meanwhile fry the fishes and keep aside
    7. When the gravy is cooked add the fresh coconut milk and let it boil
    8. Add the fried fish pieces and simmer the flame and cook
    9. Finally add the lemon juice
    10. Serve hot with ghee rice or hot steamed rice
