Delicious kheer - a common dessert

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

  • ½ cup Rice (basmati)
  • 4 cups Milk
  • ¼ cup Raisins
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cardamom, seeds
  • ¼ cup Almonds, shredded, blanched
  • 8 drops Rose Water

Directions

  1. Wash and drain the rice. Soak in water for 1/2 hour.
  2. Boil Milk and add drained rice. Simmer on low heat for 1 1/2 hours. Scrape the sides and bottom frequently to prevent sticking.
  3. When the rice is cooked and the mixtuer gets a creamy consistency, add sugar and stir well.
  4. Remove from heat and add crushed cardamom seeds, rose water and shredded almonds.
  5. Serve hot or refrigerated cold.

Hi ! i visited ur site first time and i have tried many of ur dishes they are too yummyyy. for making kheer instead of soaking the rice u try this. Take rice and roast them in a pan till they are a bit pink then crush them into two. this will give kheer a good colour and good taste.

Everyone has had this at the Indian Lunch Buffet, anywhere - and I finally know now how to make it! Delicious! I added a few extra crushed cardamom pods to my second helping - also delicious!
