the bombay duck is not a duck :) it's a fish. it's also known as bummalo (bengali: bamaloh or loytta, marathi: bombil, sinhala: ????????, urdu: ???? ?????)
Ingredients
non vegetarian 2 servings
1 cup Bombay duck
2 onions, sliced
6 garlic cloves, sliced
1 tomato, chopped
1 tsp. tomato paste
1 tsp. chilli powder
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
salt to taste
1 tsp. coriander-cummin powder
1/2 tsp. garam masala powder
2 tbsp. oil
Directions
Soak the fish in hot water for an hour. Drain and clean thoroughly to remove all the sand. Keep aside.
Heat oil and fry the garlic till they change colour. Add the sliced onion and continue to saute till light brown.
Add the chopped tomatoe and the tomato paste and fry till well mashed up.
Next add the fish, turmeric powder, salt, chilli powder, coriander-cummin powder and the garam masala powder.
Saute for a minute. Then add 1 cup water and cook, covered till dry. Serve hot with rice or chapatti.
