cucumber chutney

typical south indian,hot chutney,spicy,mouth watering

this can be used instead of pickle.along with chappatis,idly,rice and parathas,it makes a easy and spicey side dish.serves four.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1 cup finely cut cucumber
    • 1/2 cup coconut-scrapped or finely cut
    • 2 green chillies
    • 1/2 tsp mustard
    • 2 red chillies(dried)
    • 2 tsp urad dhal
    • a small ball of tamarind
    • 1 tsp cooking oil
    • salt to taste

    Directions

    1. soak tamarind in water
    2. fry mustard, urad dhal, red chillies in the oil till it becomes light brown
    3. grind coconut,red chillies, green chillies and soaked  tamarind  in a mixer adding little water ,to a coarse paste
    4. add cucumber and salt to taste and grind for another minute.
    5. the chutney is ready to be served
