fenugreek kuzhambu

fenugreek has medicinal values;supposed to bring down body heat. good to eat with rice, best along with paruppu chutney and fried appalams

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1/2 cup channa dhal
    • 1tsp fenugreek
    • 1/2 tsp mustard
    • 1 big onion ,cut to pieces
    • 3 red chillies
    • 1 tomato
    • 2 tsp chilly powder
    • 2 tbl sp cooking oil
    • juice of 1 big lemon size tamarind
    • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
    • a pinch of asafoetida
    • 1tsp curry leaves
    • 2 green chillies
    • 1 tbsp rice flour
    • salt to taste.

    Directions

    1. Add oil,mustard to a thick bottomed pan
    2. Add channa dhal, fenugreek and fry till the dhal turns light brown
    3. Add onion, slit green chillies,cut tomatoes and curry leaves
    4. When the onion becomes soft add chilly powder,turmeric powder and asafoetida
    5. Add two cups of water and cook for 6 to 8 minutes
    6. Then add tamarind juice and cook for another 5 minutes
    7. To make it thick,dissolve rice flour in 1/4 cup of water and add that to kuzhambu
    8. Remove  from fire after adding salt
