Ridge Gourd Rice

peerkangai/turai/dodke.Without adding tuvar dal,coconut,can make with tamarind.but it will be very less in quantity.coconut is chilli can also be used

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 2 cups cooked Rice
    • ½ kg Ridge gourd
    • 1/4 cup tuvar dal
    • 1 tbsp coconut
    • 4 red chilli
    • 1 tsp oil
    • Salt
    • For tempering:1 tsp gingely oil,mustard and urad dal & hing



    1. Heat ½ tsp oil in a kadai and roast tuvar dal till aroma comes and golden brown.remove from flame and cool it for sometime.
    2. Again heat oil and add red chilli and ridge gourd and ridged gourd shrinks and water starts coming out.remove from flame.
    3. Cool it for sometime.Then grind it to a coarse paste with coconut,salt in mixie.
    4. Then crackle mustard, urad dal and hing and add this to the coarse paste.
    5. Peerkangai thogayal is ready.Just add this to the Rice.Mix well.

    Type 2:

    1. Heat oil,add chana dal,red chilli,hing and tamarind and ridgegourd, grind coarsely with coconut and salt.
    2. Temper with mustard and urad dal.This can be added to Rice

    Type 3:

    1. Heat oil and add chana dal,red chilli,hing and tamarind and increase the quantity of ridgegourd saute well.
    2. Grind them coarsely and add salt.temper with mustard and urad.Mix well with rice.




    you can grind the tender skin of ridgegourd also.
