Cabbage-Carrot Chutney

A combo chutney with cabbage and carrot

Very nutritious and tasty combo-chutney to try on special occasions.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 1 cup shredded cabbage
    • 1 cup grated carrot
    • 2 green chillies
    • small lemon-size tamarind
    • 1/2 cup grated coconut
    • 5 whole red chillies
    • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
    • 1/2 tsp split urad dhal
    • 2 tsp chopped sambar onions
    • few curry leaves
    • 1 tbsp refined oil
    • 1 tsp salt or needed


    1. Heat 1 tsp oil in a kadai and saute the grated cabbage and carrot for 2 mins only.
    2. Allow it to cool.Grind this with 2 green chillies,3 red chillies,tamarind,salt and grated coconut to a fine paste with little water(1 cup).
    3. Heat the remaining 2 tsp oil in the same kadai and saute mustard seeds,split urad dhal, chopped sambar onions and curry leaves.
    4. Add this seasoning to the ground cabbage-carrot chutney.
    5. Serve this Cabbage-carrot chutney with Idli, Dosa etc.
