Muligatawny Soup

Chicken soup with great flavors

This soup was originally known as 'Mulliga Thanni'. Literally translated as 'Pepper water'. Known in south india as Rasam. The soup got some popularity in one of the episodes of 'Sienfield' series in USA.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

  • ¼ cup Lentil
  • 1 tbsp Cauliflower, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Potato, diced
  • 1 no. Carrot, chopped
  • 1 no. Onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsps. Radish, grated
  • ¼ no. Apple, green variety, chopped
  • ½ tsp All spice powder
  • 1 tsp Butter
  • ¼ cup Coconut, milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Black Pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Pressure cook lentils, potato and cauliflower in 4 cups of water.
  2. Run the mixture in a blender into a stock.
  3. Melt butter in a sauce pan.
  4. Add chopped veggetables and apple, stir fry for 4-5 minutes.
  5. Add blended stock. Stir and bring to boil. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Add curry powder, salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Stir in coconut milk.
  8. Serve with dried bread sticks.
