Plaintain curry

Spicy plantains

Plaintain is unripened banana. The kind of plaintain to choose for this recipe is green and is not sweet at all. This is pretty spicy but if you want to reduce the heat, just reduce the quantity of chillies

Ingredients vegetarian 10 servings

    • 18 Plantains (peeled & cut into cubes)
    • 3/4 cup Chana dal
    • 2 1/2 tsp Jeera
    • 25 red chilly
    • 1 cup grated coconut
    • 3/4 cup oil
    • 1/2 tsp mustard
    • curry leaves
    • 2 tsp Urad dal
    • 4 tsp salt
    • 45 gms Tamarind (take juice)
    • 1 tsp Tumeric powder


    1. Roast chana dal & jeera, separately roast red chillies, grind the roasted items along with coconut (make it as a masala paste)
    2. Heat oil in a kadahi and put mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves. Let it crackles for a minute.
    3. Add plantain, masala, tamarind juice, turmeric powder mix it well.
    4. Add water to cover the mix and add salt.
    5. Once the gravy comes to a boil, reduce heat to medium and let it simmer until the plantains are cooked and soft.
