Tomato sev nu shaak

This recipe made with tomatoes and onions in Gujarat, serv with roti and rice.Traditional dish of Gujarat.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 1 large onions finely chopped
    • 5 large tomatoes finely chopped
    • 1/4 tsp turmeric
    • salt to taste
    • 2 tsp chilli powder
    • 1 tbsp oil 
    • 3/4 tsp cumin seeds
    • 1/2 cup Nylon sev
    • 2 tbsp coriander leaves
    • 2 green chillies finely chopped
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste


    1. First take a pan pour oil add cumin seeds, when cumin seeds splutter add onions and saute until the onions become transparent.
    2. Add ginger garlic paste, tomatoes, green chillies then add salt and turmeric powder mix well close the lid for 5 minutes.
    3. open the lid, tomatoes become soft add red chilli powder, coriander powder add water and continously shake for 2 minutes.
    4.  add sugar  and coriander leaves.
    5. At last add nylon sev and mix well.

    Nylon sev can't be used. Sev has to be made out from besan.



    In Gujarati sev-tomato onions and ginger are not used. It tastes even better without sugar.
