Fish Biryani

Ingredients non vegetarian 6 servings

  • Vegetable Oil for frying
  • 2 drops Food Color, yellow
  • 1 kg Fish, sliced
  • 6 cups Rice, half cooked
  • 4 nos. Potato, cut in pieces
  • 5 cups Onion, sliced
  • 3 tbsps. Ginger, paste
  • 4 tbsps. Garlic, paste
  • 6 tbsps. Onion, paste
  • 1 cup Coriander leaves, chopped
  • ½ cup Mint, chopped
  • 2 nos. Chili, slit
  • 3 tsps. All spice powder
  • 1 cup Peas
  • ½ cup Butter
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 nos. Lime juice
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Marinate fish with salt,pepper & lemon juice. Keep aside.
  2. Soak potato pices in salted water.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add butter. Fry onions to golden and reserve.
  4. Add a drop of yellow colour to the potatoes and fry till tender.
  5. Fry fish to golden brown.
  6. In a cooking dish put potatoes,onion paste,ginger-garlic paste,coriander,mint leaves,1/4 of fried onions,salt,garam masala,chillies,1/4 of green peas 2 cups of water.Mix thouroughly.
  7. Lastly add fish. Shake the dish so that the fish is well mix with the ingredients.
  8. Layer with 1/2 of rice,top with 1/2 of onions & 1/2 of green peas. Add the remaining rice layered with the rest of onions & green peas.
  9. Add remaining yellow colour and cover tightly.
  10. cook on moderate flame for 20 mins & low flame for 10 mins.

    Serve hot with cucumber salad, kutcha and chilli pickles.

Yellow color? Try saffron. You get color, and mainly the flavor. That makes a real biryani. Also try not just one type of fish, but three or four, including squids if you like these.
