non vegetarian 4 servings
5 big sized tomatoes
8 - 10 sambar onions (small onions usually used for sambar)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp chana dal
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp black pepper seeds
few curry leaves
2 - 3 tsp of white vinegar
2 tsp cooking oil
Peel the onions and cut into pieces.
Cut the tomatoes into big pieces.Remove its seeds while cutting it.
In a cooking vessel , add chopped tomatoes , onions , turmeric powder , chilli powder , salt and enough water and boil it for around 5 to 10 minutes. Don't keep it watery. The water should have got absorbed fully.
Let it cool.
Now grind it coarsely (neither too coarse nor too fine).
In a kadai, add oil. When its heated, add mustard seeds. allow it to crackle. Now add cumin seeds , chana dal , curry leaves, black pepper seeds.fry for a minute.
