Chakali

Wheat flour chakali, gujju style..

Recipe by KIRTI of Abu Dhabi, AE

Ingredients vegetarian 10 servings

    • 3 cups wheat flour
    • 1 tsp of ginger and chilly paste
    • 1 tsp of sesame seeds
    • 1 tsp chilly powder
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    • yoghurt (dahi) to knead the flour
    • salt to taste

    Directions

    1. Take the flour in a muslin cloth, gather the cloth from all corners and tie a knot with one end making it a potli.
    2. Pressure cook it till 4 to 5 whistles, making sure water doesnt touch the flour or cloth.
    3. When done, open the cooker and take out the cloth (potli) of flour and let it cool for sometime.
    4. Open the cloth and break open the ball of flour in a large bowl till the flour has no crumples.
    5. Add sesame seeds, ginger chilly paste, chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt and knead the flour with yoghurt.
    6. Make chakalis.

Tip : Knead the flour with sour yoghurt to get that sour taste in chakalis.

    Mumtaz

Thank you so much I will try again because it really tasted good thought they turned out soft.

    KIRTI

Mumtaz, u have to fry them on a medium flame where the oil should not be too hot nor less...n also check the consistency of the kneaded flour..it should not be too soft or too stiff, just like chapatti flour..try it again...All the best..

    Mumtaz

kirti, the taste was good but when i fried them they would either turn soft or too hard.please can you tell me the right to fry it and the color.
