  • 2 Onions
  • 2 Boiled Potatoes
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 2 Green Chilly
  • 500 g Chicken (boiled)
  • 50 g Coconut (grated)
  • 10 each Cashewnuts and almonds
  • 50 g Groundnuts
  • 50 g each of Green Peas, Carrot, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Capsicum
  • 400 g Puffed Rice (Mamra) 
  • 2 tsp Red chilly powder
  • 1½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing


  1. Cut onions, potatoes(boiled), tomatoes and rest of the vegetables, cubically.
  2. Shred the boiled chicken and keep aside.
  3. Heat a frying pan and add cumin seeds. Later add groundnuts, cashew nuts, almonds until light brown.
  4. Add the onions and green chilly and saute it until light brown.
  5. Add the remaining vegetables along with tomatoes. Add the spices and cover it with a lid. The gas should be on a low flame.
  6. Meanwhile, soak the puff rice in water. Drain the water aside. The puffed rice will be soft.
  7. Add the shredded chicken in the frying pan and dash it with a spoon of lemon juice. Cover the lid.
  8. Every 5 minutes, they should be sauteed.  Check whether all the vegetables are cooked.
  9. Add the puffed rice and mix it well.
  10. Garnish it with grated coconut and coriander leaves.
  11. Your dish is ready to be attacked.

Puffed rice(soaked one) is the last ingredient to be added. It cant be gooey. Its similar to the style of making poha. Puffed rice acts like a rice in this dish, but its taste is different. Even better than rice.

I didn't understand how we can you add puffed rice to make Biryani? It starts to become moist as soon as one mixes it with anything and by the time it's served it will look gooey.
