Dry Mackerel Salad

Jhatpat dish enjoyed by all Goans as a side dish with rice

Ingredients non vegetarian 4 servings


    2 dried Mackerels 2 medium sized Onion 1 tsp chilli powder 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder 2 tbsp coconut oil Salt for taste 1/2 cup fresh grated coconut

    Directions

    1. Roast the Mackerals on direct fire.
    2. Remove the skin, tail, head and the thorns and make separate out the flesh into small piece.
    3. Fry the pieces with little coconut oil for about 5 seconds on a hot tawa.
    4. Remove from fire and add finely chopped onion, chilli powder, salt, haldi and grated coconut.
    5. Mix well and serve hot.

    You can even add a little coconut oil on top. This dish is served as a side dish with rice. (Any other dried fish can be substituted for Mackerels but the flavour is the best with mackerels....specially Mackerals from Goa ;)
