Paalak patal bhaji

Nutrious Spinach cooked with chana dal

Nutrious Tasty recipe. Goes well with chapatis, phulkas and Rice.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1/2 Kg Fresh Spinach leaves
    • 1 Cup chana dal
    • 1 tsp peanuts
    • 4-5 slices of raddish
    • 1 tsp methi dana
    • 1 tsp rai (black mustard)
    • 2 fresh green chillies chopped
    • Pinch of hing (asefotaida)
    • 1 tsp red chilli powder
    • tamarind soaked in 1/4 cup of water
    • 2 tsp grated gud
    • 1 tsp garam masala

    For Tadka:

    • 1 tbs Rai
    • 4/5 garlic flakes
    • 5/6 tbs oil
    • 1 pinch hing
    • 3 tbs red chilli powder

     

     

    Directions

    1. Wash and roughly chop the spinach leaves.
    2. Pressure cook Spinach along with Chana Dal, peanuts, raddish slices, green chillies
    3. In a kadhai heat the oil. After the oil is heated up ,add rai, hing, turmeric powder.
    4. Add pressure cooked mixture into this kadhai.
    5. Add Red chilli powder,garam masala,tamarind pulp and Gud
    6. Allow to boil for 1 minute

    Make the Tadka just before serving

    For Tadka:

    • heat oil in a small pan
    • Add rai ,hing
    • Add garlic flakes
    • Switch off the burner and then add 3-4 teaspoon of chilli powder.

    While serving Serve the patal bhaji, over it serve the tempering Hot Tadka. Serve with Hot Phulkas/Rice.
