sesame rice

rice flavoured with til or sesame

A different kind of flavour

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

    • 1 cup Rice
    For Masala Powder:
    • 1 tsp  oil
    • 1/2 cup  white til
    • 3 to 4 red chillies
    • 2 tsp urad dal
    • 1 pinch  l.g.powder
    • salt to taste
    • a few curry leaves
    • 1 tsp  jaggery
    • 1 tsp  oil
    For Tempering:
    • 1 tbsp  oil
    • 1 tsp  mustard seeds
    • 1 tsp  urad dal
    • 1 tsp  chana dal
    • a few groundnuts or cashews


    1. Cook rice in 2 cups of water till it done and grains are seperate.
    2. You can add 1 tsp of ghee when cookin rice to prevent them from sticking.
    3. Spread rice on a plate and allow it to cool.
    4. In a pan heat 1t sp oil,fry urad dal, chillies, l.g.powder and til. Make powder and spread on the rice.
    5. Heat 1t bsp oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, groundnuts or cashews, curry leaves.
    6. Fry till dals and nuts are golden brown and pour on rice mix.
    7. Add salt and jaggery powdered and mix well.
    8. Serve hot with any raitha or avial.
