Gulab Jamun

Brown dumpling in aromatic syrup

Recipe by Dairyman of Dubai, AE

There are different ways of preparing Gulab jamun. This one is how most confectioners in India prepare it.

Ingredients vegetarian 10 servings

  • ¼ lb Indian Cottage Cheese, grated
  • ½ lb Dry Milk
  • 2 tbsps. All Purpose Flour
  • 2 tsps. Raw Cream
  • ¼ tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • Cardamom to taste, powder
  • Vegetable Oil for frying

Directions

  1. Dissolve sugar in 4 cups of water and bring to a boil. Keep stirring till the syrup thickens. Set aside.
  2. Mix khoya, paneer, soda, flour, cardamom powder and cream. Knead it into a soft dough.
  3. Shape the dough into 12 round balls.
  4. Heat oil and deep fry the balls over medium heat. Keep the heat low or else the insides of the gulab jamun will remain uncooked.
  5. As the balls turn golden brown, remove them and drop them into the warm syrup.
  6. Remove the Gulab jamuns from the syrup after 20 minutes and serve.

hi i read this recipe about gulab jamun i want to know about what is the khoya and what is drymilk and what is cottege cheese. thanks

sunil

I agree with some people that you should replace khoya with some other suitable inredients and i think you should replace to burfee becouse it's contain the similarity of khoya.

usha

It would be nice to see alternative recipe for people living in USA since they cant get ingredients like khoya

Samina Tabbasum

I could't understand the procedure of mixing step by setp.

Raj

1) There is no mention on Khoya in the ingredients, but the preparation requires it. A substitute for Khoya would be useful. 2) How to know the right consistency for the syrup?

Ritu

Pls give a substitute for the khova as it is not available here and to make at home is too tedious. Awaiting your reply.

shaista

khoya, we cant get. pl.replace this with any other suitable ingr.
