Maandazi

More like fried buns...made of white flour and coconut

This is a famous african dish,,,and very common in indian houses also...most people eat this for breakfast almost everyday...those who have not tasted ...plz try and you will like it!

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 2½ cups white flour.
    • ¾ cup sugar.
    • 3 pinches of cardamom powder.
    • 4 ½ cup very thick coconut milk.
    • 2 tsp margarine.
    • Oil for deep frying.
    • 1 ½ tsp yeast. (adjust yeast according to climate).

    Directions

    1. Put yeast in a bowl. add 3 tsps warm water mix it ,and cover it and keep aside till frothy.
    2. Take flour in a dish,add sugar,cardamom,margarine.yeast mix it .knead the flour with adding coconut milk gradually,till dough just soft and smooth(you can add more milk if dough hard, even light one will do).
    3. Cover the dough and keep in warm place to rise till double the size.
    4. Once dough risen take it and knead it little ,cut the dough in 2 parts.
    5. Roll one part(sprinkle flour while rolling) into 6mm thick roti.
    6. Cut it into 4 or 6 triangles,finish the other part same way.If you want round ones you can cut with biscuit cutter.
    7. Heat oil,reduce the heat to medium..fry 2 pieces at a time,the mandazi should puff up as soon as submerged in oil.fry till golden brown ,,finish rest in the same manner.
    8. Serve with tea.
    9. YOU CAN ADD 1TSPS OF SAUNF IN THE FLOUR.

    Dear Viewers! There is slight mistake in MAANDAZI recipe ...instead of 41/2 cups of coconut milk take 1 1/2 cups of it .add gradually to the flour and knead till flour soft and smooth(IF THE DOUGH IS STIL HARD YOU CAN ADD EVEN THE LIGHT COCONUT MILK OR WATER)...SORRY FOR THE ERROR!

    Hi Sandeep! Yes it is powdered yeast..but you can use any yeast. Regarding milk you can use fresh but you wont get the exact taste...so use coconut milk for better results..
