Daal Pithori

A tangy Daal cooked with Wheat flour pieces

Its a Bihari Dish and is one of my favourite comfort foods.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1/2 cup Toor Daal
    • 2 cups Wheat Flour 
    • 1 small onion
    • 1 small Tomato
    • 2 Tbsp Tamarind juice
    • 1 tsp Jaggery
    • 2 greem chilli chopped
    • 1 tsp chilli pwd
    • 1/2 tsp haldi pwd
    • 1/2 dhania pwd
    • 1/2 tsp garam masala
    • corainder leaves
    • 1/2 tsp sugar
    • 1/2 tsp rai
    • 1/2 jeera
    • salt to taste
    • oil

    Directions

    1. Take a Bowl  with wheat flour,2 tbsp of oil,salt,sugar and knead into a dove which is a bit hard as compared to chapati dove and keep aside for 10 mins.
    2. Pressure cook Toor Daal  with haldi.
    3. Take a ball of dove and roll like chapati(a bit thicker)and with the help of knife cut the chapati horizontally and vertically to form squares (about 1/2 inch on each sides).Keep all the pieces on a paper.Repeat this for  the entire dove.
    4. Take a thick vessel. After its hot put 1 tbsp oil. Add Jeera, Rai, green chillis, chopped garlic. stir for sometime. Add chopped onion and fry. Add haldi, chilli pwd, dhania pwd, chopped tomatos and fry for a while till tomatoes are cooked. Now add jaggery and then boiled daal. Add some hot water to make the daal thin Add tamrind juice .
    5. As daal starts to boil add the cut pieces of aata into the daal and boil  the daal at sim flame for 15 20 min till the pieces are fully cooked in the daal.In between see that daal is not very thick in consistency , if then add some more hot water.You can make out by looking at the pieces that they are cooked as they look a bit shiny.If needed put the lid on for sometime,but stir in between.
    6. Add garam masala and coriander leaves at the end. Add some ghee to enhance the taste.
