Aama Vada

made usually during festivals as part of the meal. Can also be prepared as a snack for tea time.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

  • ¾ cup Bengal Gram (split)
  • 1 tbsp Red Gram (split)
  • 2 nos. Red Chilies
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp Green Gram (split)
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable Oil for frying


  1. Soak chana and toor dal for two hours.
  2. Add chilly , salt and asafoetida and grind very coarsely.
  3. Wash the moong dal and add it to this.
  4. Flatten it into vada shape and deep fry in oil.
Note -Finely chopped onions may be added to the paste to give an added taste.
