Vegetable Sesame rice

Good for those sesame lovers.....

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

  • 1½ cups Vegetables, chopped capsicum, carrots, potatoes, peas
  • ½ cup Sesame Seeds, white
  • 4 tsps. Coriander Seeds
  • 5 nos. Red Chilies
  • 5 leaves Curry Leaf
  • 2 nos. Green Chilies, slit
  • ½ tsp Mustard seeds (black)
  • ½ tsp Red Gram (split)
  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tbsps. Vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup Rice (basmati)
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Salt to taste


  1. Cook the plain rice and keep aside.
  2. Roast sesame till it splutters and becomes golden brown in colour.
  3. Take 1 tsp. oil in a kadai and roast the coriander and the red chillies till it gives an aroma.
  4. Powder the sesame, coriander and the red chillies and keep aside.
  5. Heat the remaining oil in the kadai and add mustard seeds.
  6. When the mustard splutters, add chana dal and fry till golden brown.
  7. Next, add curry leaves and green chillies.
  8. Add all the vegetables, salt and turmeric powder.
  9. Fry the vegetables till they are cooked.
  10. Now, add the sesame-coriander powder to the vegetables and mix well. Switch off the gas.
  11. Mix this vegetable with the rice well.
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with onion raita.
