Paal (Vellai) Paniyaram

very special dish of Tamil Nadu

A very traditional dish of my home state which can easily prepared.the preparation is almost similar to appam . try at home and drop your comments.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1 cup raw rice 
    • 1 cup urad dal
    • 1 cocunut (extract coconut milk)
    • 1 1/2 cup sugar 
    • 1 tsp cardamom powder
    • 1 tsp salt
    • oil to fry

    Directions

    1. Soak rice and urad dal for 3 hours.
    2. Grind both of them together to thick flour by adding salt and half coconut milk only.
    3. After the paniyaram flour is prepared (should be as thick as idly flour ), add sugar and cardamom powder and mix it well.
    4. If you don't have the paniyaram kadai, take the frying pan. Heat oil in it. then take one spoon of the flour and fry it till golden brown.( it will come as a round ball like) . you do lot of paniyarams till the four is over.
    5. Serve the paniyarams hot with coconut milk (other half and add 1 tsp sugar).
    6. very tasty traditional chettinad dish.

    the ingredients should be: raw rice(boiled) - 1 cup,urad dhal - little more than 1/4 cup,fenugreek seeds - 2 tsp(soak with rice),coconut milk - 1 cup,sugar - 1/2 cup,crushed jaggery -1 tbsp(as filtered syrup-1/4 cup),salt - 1/2 tsp,refined oil - 1 or 2 tbsp - to grease the paniyaram kadai(then it is also called kuzhi paniyaram) or to shallow fry the vellai paniyaram.The dough should be thicker than idli batter and should not add water to the paniyaram batter(only coconut milk and little jaggery syrup should be used).
