Coconut soup

This dish basically is from Tirunelveli - a district of tamil Nadu. It goes very well with rice. Enjoy and let me know.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

  • ¼ tsp Fenugreek
  • 1 tbsp Black gram
  • 5 nos. Chili, red
  • ½ cup Coconut, grated

Carrot, onion, drumstick, chow-chow - either in combination or individually Tamarind - pulp or paste Gooseberry size Seasoning: Mustard, fenugreek, curry leaves


  1. Roast the first three ingredients in a little oil and grind with fresh coconut.
  2. Boil the veggies in tamarind extract and add salt and a pinch of turmeric powder.
  3. When done add the ground paste and bring to a boil.
  4. Finally, add the seasoning and serve hot with rice.



Hi This is my favourite recipe & my mother used to prepare it very well,now i am in london i wanted to cook for myself & instead of calling my mother & asking for directions i thought i will prepare it for myself following the instructions provided & the result was a very fine dish liked very much by my friends thank u very much Rajesh
