Macher (Fish) Kachori

This is a yummy mouth watering dish made of fish...

Ingredients non vegetarian 4 servings

    For dough:

    • 2 cups maida
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/4 cup oil or melted ghee

    For filling:

    • 250 gm rohu fish
    • 2 tbsp masur dal (soaked in water for an hour)
    • 1 big onion (finely chopped)
    • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
    • 1 tsp garam masala
    • 2 bay leaves
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric pwdr
    • 1/2 tsp lal mirch pwdr
    • 1/2 tsp green chilles
    • salt to taste
    • oil for filling and frying


    1. To prepare the dough combine all the ingredients in a bowl and knead into a semi soft dough using water.
    2. Keep it for 5 - 7 minutes.
    3. Divide the dough into equal parts and keep them covered under a wet muslin cloth
    For filling:
    1. First marinate the fish with salt and turmeric powder and fry it.
    2. carefully remove all the fish bones nd smash it properly
    3. Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaves and onion.
    4. Fry it till golden brown.
    5. add ginger garlic paste and saute it for a minute
    6. add haldi, lal mirch n green chilles
    7. add masur dal paste and saute for 2 min. put little water if it sticks the pan.
    8. add fish, garam masala pwdr and salt
    9. stir for 5-7 min till all masalas are cooked.
    10. Remove from flame and remove bay leaves.
    11. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
    12. To make kachoris roll out each portion of the dough into a 2 inch diameter circle.
    13. Place one portion of the filling in the centre of the rolled dough.
    14. Surround the filling with the dough by slowly streching it over the filling.Seal the ends tightly.
    15. Roll each filled portion into a 2 - 3 inch diameter circle taking care to ensure that the filling does not spill out.
    16. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
    17. Deep fry the kachoris in hot oil over a slow flame till golden brown. The kachoris should puff up like puris.
    18. Serve hot with hari chutney or white sauce.
