khatti-meethi arabi (colocasia)

This is a vegetable made with dates and tamarind.

It is a sweet and sour vegetable.A different dish for vegetarians.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1/2 kg arabi(boiled, peeled and lightly fried)
    • 1 big onion(chopped and fried and made into paste)
    • 3-5 dates(soaked and made into paste)
    • 1 1/2 tbs tamarind paste
    • 1 twig of curry leaves
    • dry spices like turmeric,red chilli powder and coriander powder(1/4 tsp each)
    • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
    • salt according to taste
    • 1 tbs oil   

    Directions

    1. Heat oil in a pan put curry leaves and cumin seeds.
    2. As they start to splutter add onion paste and stir for a while.
    3. Add dry spices and dates' paste.
    4. Again stir for sometime and add tamarind paste.
    5. Now it is time to add arabi and salt with little water.
    6. Cover and cook for sometime and dish out.
