mixed dal

my nextdoor friend who is from rajasthan taught me this recipe.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 1 tbsp masur dal(redwali)
    • 1 tbsp moong dhuli dal
    • 1 tbsp chana dal
    • 1 tbsp urad dal
    • 1 tbsp arhar dal
    • 1/2 cup chopped onion
    • 2 tsp coriander powder
    • 1 tsp chilli powder
    • 1/2 tsp haldi
    • 3 tbsp ghee
    • 1 tsp jeera
    • salt to taste
    for tempering
    • 1/2 cup tomatoes chopped
    • 1 cup fresh curd
    • 1/2 garam masala
    • 2 tbsp butter
    • coriander for garnish

    Directions

    1. wash all the dals and soak them for 30 minutes and drain the water
    2. heat ghee in a pan and add the jeera and onion and saute
    3. add all the dal and stir for 4-5 minutes
    4. add 4 cups of water and cook on a slow flame until soft
    5. add the turmeric powder coriander powder,
    6. and salt.
    7. cover and simmer on a low flame until 2/3 rd of the water evaporates.
    8. whisk well to mash the dal.
    9. in a small pan melt the butter, add tomatoes, curd and garam masala .
    10. cook on a slow flame for 1-2 minutes
    11. add the cooked dals and simmer for 3-4 minutes tillit boils.
    12. garnish with the coriander and serve.
