Special Milky Dahi Barey

A very eatable dish in both eids.

Ingredients vegetarian 6 servings

    • 1 cup maash ki daal
    • 1 onion
    • 4 cloves garlic
    • 1 medium piece of ginger
    • 8 almonds
    • 1/2 tsp sweet soda
    • salt to taste
    • 2 cups oil
    • 1 1/4 kg yogurt
    • 1 cup milk
    • 8 whole red chillies
    • 1 tbsp white cumin seeds
    • 1 tbsp sugar


    1. Soak white lentil for an hour.Grind the soaked lentils,garlic,ginger and onion together.
    2. Peal the almonds and then grind them.
    3. Add the almonds and soda into lentil mixture and set aside for a while.
    4. Take 1 kg yogurt in a bowl and add milk,sugar and salt in it and beat well and keep aside.
    5. Put water in a bowl and and add 1/4 tsp salt and 1 tsp sugar in it and dissolves them well.
    6. Heat oil in a pan.Put spoonfuls of white lentil mixture in the heated oil and fry till they turn golden.
    7. Put the fried baray in dissolved water and after 2 minutes take them out individually and squeeze each b/w your palms.
    8. Put them in the yogurt bowl.Put remaning yogurt on top.To prepare the masala for garnishing,roast whole red chillies and cumin seeds grind them fine.
    9. Serve dahi baray with this prepared masala sprinkled and chaat masala accompanied by sweet and sour tamarind chutney.
