Moongphali in Moongdaal Gravy

A simple easy to make daal gravy

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

    • 1 cup Moong daal
    • 2 cups water
    • 1 small diced onion
    • 1 small diced tomato
    • chopped coriander
    • 1 spoon fried groundnuts
    • 1 spoon tamarind extract
    • half a spoon saambaar / rasam powder
    • little jaggery
    • little oil
    • few mustard seeds
    • few cumin seeds
    • little hing
    • curry leave
    • turmeric powder
    • salt to taste


    1. Heat oil in a kadai and saute mustard seed, cumin seeds and add hing.
    2. Add curry leaves, groundnuts, diced onion and tomato and mix well
    3. Add mung daal to it, pour water and allow it to cook in low heat.
    4. After mung dal is cooked, add tamarind juice, jaggery, salt, turmeric powder and saamber powder / rasam powder.
    5. Keep in low heat for few minutes and then garnish with corriander leaves.
    6. Serve hot with roti or rice.
