Crushed wheat Polau

Healthier puloa

To be honest I prefer this over the rice polau or biryani when it comes to being health concious.It has a wonderful taste and fragrance.

Ingredients non vegetarian 4 servings

    • 2 cup half crushed wheat Soaked over night and drained
    • 4 tbsp oil.
    • 5-6 cardamoms
    • 1 large  sticks cinnamon.
    • 2 onion thinly sliced
    • 2 tomatoes chopped into small cubes.
    • 1 tbsp tomato paste
    • 1 tsp garam masala.
    • 1 tsp chili powder
    • 1 tsp cumin powder
    • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
    • 1 1/2 tsp salt or adjust to your taste
    • 1/2 kg mutton cubes or 1/2  cut chicken.
    • 7 cup water
    • Fried nuts, raisins and some greens.


    1. In a pot heat oil, Add cardamom  and cinnamon then  fry the Onion til light golden.
    2. Add tomatoes, tomato paste and masalas.
    3. Fry for 2 min  then add meat add fry.
    4. Pour the water, bring to a boil and  cook the meat over medium heat until the water is approx 3 c and meat is tender (30 - 45 min).
    5. Add the half crushed wheat and bring to a boil.
    6. Lower the heat and cook with a tight lid for 30- 45 min till wheat is tender fluff with a fork.
    7. Bring out in a dish and place the meat over the cooked wheat polau garnish with fried nuts and raisins and some cilantro.
    8. serve hot.
    *Chicken recipe will require less amount of water and less cooking time.
