Rava Upama Maharashtrian style

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

     Main Ingredient:

    • 1 cup rava/soji,
    • 1 chopped onion,
    • ¼ inch ginger chopped,
    • 1 tomato chopped,
    • 1/2 cup green peas,
    • 4-5 curry leaves,
    • 3-4 green chilies,
    • 2 cups boiled water,
    • salt to taste
    • sugar to taste

    For Tempering:

    • 4-5 tbsp vegetable oil,
    • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds,
    • 1/2 cumin seeds,
    • 1tbsp urad dal.

    For Garnishing:

    • Coriander leaves
    • Fresh grated coconut
    • Sev
    • 4 Lemon pieces


    1. Roast rava on medium heat till you get the smell of roasted rava and keep it aside.
    2. Heat oil in a pan; add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ginger followed by urad dal.
    3. Add green chilies and curry leaves.
    4. Now add chopped onion and fry till onion turns pink or transparent, put green peas,
    5. Add chopped tomatoes. Fry till tomato becomes tender enough.
    6. Add water and salt, sugar to taste
    7. Now put roasted rava.
    8. Mix it well and cover up. Cook till all water gets absorb.
    9. Stir in between.
    10. Switch of the heat
    11. Garnish upama with coriander and coconut.
    12. Serve hot with piece of lemon.
