Bhindi Do Pyaaza

Its a mouthwatering dish made of Bhindi (ladiesfinger)

Recipe by BHARAT SADHWANI of Antananarivo, MG

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings

    • 400 g Bhindi (Ladies finger)
    • 2 Potatoes
    • 4 Onions
    • 2 Tomatoes
    • 3 Green chilly
    • Salt to taste;
    • 1 tbsp Red Chilly powder
    • 1 tbsp Turmeric Powder
    • 1 tbsp Coriander powder
    • 1/2 tbsp Garam masala
    • 3 Garlic cloves,  mashed
    • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
    • Coriander leaves for garnishing.

    1. Cut onions, potatoes, tomatoes and bhindi in a medium cubicle shape.
    2. Heat 2 tbsps of cooking oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds for roasting.
    3. Add garlic, chillies and onions until light pinkish in colour.
    4. Add bhindi and potatoes along with the spices.
    5. Cook it on a low flame. After 5 minutes, add tomatoes in it.  Add 2 tbsp of water. Mix it well and cover the pressure cooker.
    6. Cook it for 25 minutes on a small flame.
    7. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
    8. Well, your dish is ready.

Bhindi cannot be cooked in pressure cooker, unless it is on a low flame. Also, the ingredients should be in proper measure. If turmeric, then put half spoon. From the colour itself, you will know whether it needs more or not. Anyways, enjoy cooking. Bye

I tried this recipe and 1 tbsp turmeric ruined the taste of this dish. It made it taste bitter and the garlic also got burned when I put it with the onions to fry. I should have waited and put the garlic and chillies after the onions were pinkish brown. The dish got a little bit burned because I cooked it in the pressure cooker(as per the recipe) with only 2 tbsp of water. I might try this recipe again but with some verifications. Thanks!
