Vegetable Kadavu

Getting bored of Idllies then try this one out. It will be liked by all

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings

    • 2 cups of Idli Batter
    • 1½ cup of vegetables(beans,carrot,peas,potato)
    • 3 Large size Tomatoes
    • 2 large size onions
    • 1½ tsp of ginger-garlic paste
    • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
    • 1 tsp Chilly powder
    • 1 tsp garam masala
    • Salt to taste
    • 3 tbsp of oil
    • 1 tsp mustard seeds
    • Curry and Coriander leaves for garnishing



    1. Add the vegetables to the idlly batter along with turmeric powder.
    2. Leave this mixture for 10 mins amd make idllies in the idlly plate.
    3. If you don't have a idlly plate then pour the batter in small tumblers.
    4. Take a khadai and place the tumblers in the khadai and add water to kahadai.
    5. See to that the tumblers are standing not tumbling. adjust the water level accordingly.
    6. Once the Idlly is made take it out and place it in a plate allow it to cool.
    7. Now chop the onions and tomato to small pieces.
    8. In a khadai add oil and mustard seeds.
    9. Once the mustard seeds splutters and onions and saute till they are well cooked.
    10. Saute in such a way that onions doesn't lose their original color.
    11. Now add ginger-garlc paste and saute raw smells goes.
    12. Add the chopped tomato and mix well till the oil separates.
    13. Now add chilly powder and garam masala powder along with salt and mix for 5 mins.
    14. By this time the idllis will have cooled.
    15. Take one Idlly and cut into 6 pieces. Repeat the same process to all idllies.
    16. Add this cut veggie idlli to the tomato-onion mixture.
    17. Mix the idllies with the mixture in such way that the cut pieces are not broken.
    18. Keep it in the fire for 5 mins in low heat.
    19. Garnish with chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves.
    20. Vegetable Kadavu is ready to serve.
    21. Serve hot.

    Note: Skip garam masal and chilly powder if you are giving it to children. As well as while adding salt add a small quantity since already the iddly batter will have salt in it.
