Yam Vadai

Vadai made with mashed Yam and gramdhal

Very tasty Yam vadai for tea-time.You can also do Plaintain Vadai by substituting cooked and mashed raw-banana for mashed yam.

Ingredients vegetarian 4 servings


    • 100 gm yam
    • 10 sambar onions - finely chopped
    • 5 whole red chillies
    • 1/2 cup soaked gram dhal-kadalai paruppu
    • 1/2 cup grated coconut
    • 2 tsp saunf
    • 2 tsp salt
    • 6 chopped curry leaves
    • little chopped coriander
    • 150 ml refined oil

    Directions

    1. In pressure cooker,cook yam with salt and 1/4 cup water upto 5 whistle or 15 mins.Turn off the flame .Let it cool for 10 mins.
    2. Grind soaked gram dhal with saunf,grated coconut,whole red chillies without adding water using a mixer grinder.
    3. Mash cooked Yam well with a spoon (strain if it has water).
    4. Add the ground gram dhal mixture,chopped onions,curry leaves,chopped coriander to the mashed yam and mix well.Shape them into round flat-sized vadais.
    5. Heat oil in a non-stick kadai.Fry the Yam Vadas till it turns golden brown on bothsides.
    6. Serve this Yam Vadai hot with coconut chutney.
